Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current lead NFL analyst for CBS Sports, was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

Romo, 46, was pulled over on the high-rise bridge while driving southbound on Interstate 43 at around 6:15 p.m., authorities said. According to an arrest detention report, Romo was taken into custody after performing poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. He was booked into the Milwaukee County Jail around 9:45 p.m. and later released.

Romo faces a charge of first-offense operating while intoxicated (OWI), Wisconsin’s equivalent of a DUI. It is unclear whether Romo submitted to a breath or blood test, and his blood alcohol concentration has not been made public. In Wisconsin, a first OWI offense is typically treated as a civil violation carrying a fine and a temporary license suspension, though penalties can increase depending on blood alcohol level. Formal charges have not yet been filed. Romo is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 21.

Additional details, including what vehicle Romo was driving or whether anyone else was in the car, have not been released.

Romo, a Burlington, Wisconsin native and avid golfer, was in his home state competing in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, held Monday through Thursday in West Bend.

However, Romo had an awful tournament, with reports indicating that he finished the tournament a whopping 35-over par and won just $60.

Romo went undrafted in 2003 before becoming the Cowboys’ starting quarterback in 2006. Over his career he threw for 34,183 yards and 248 touchdowns, earned four Pro Bowl selections, and finished tied for third in MVP voting in 2014. He retired following the 2016 season and immediately joined CBS, where he has since become the network’s top NFL analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz, calling multiple Super Bowls together.

Neither the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office nor CBS has issued a public statement on the arrest, and it remains unclear whether the incident will affect Romo’s broadcasting role.
