A man was arrested Monday morning after a terror attack at the New York City federal building that houses U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The suspects name is Andrew Arrabaca, police have announced.
Two law enforcement sources confirmed the identity to Fox News, telling the outlet he had “anti-ICE stuff on him” at the time of the attack. Police say the suspect is a protester with a documented history of anti-ICE activity.
The suspect dumped out a homemade bomb made of fireworks and a flammable liquid, and set off the mixture outside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan on Monday morning.
The act caused a fire and released smoke and injured two. The New York City Fire Department responded and put out the flames.
The building the suspect targeted houses dozens of federal agencies including FBI, ICE, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and New York immigration court. It went into shelter in place out of an abundance of caution following the blast. No shots were fired.
The FBI New York Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating.
“This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza,” the FBI said in a statement. “The individual has been taken into custody and the FBI New York Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating this incident.”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., whose district includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens, issued a statement condemning the attack.
“I am grateful to law enforcement for their swift actions to stop an attack at 26 Federal Plaza this morning, for successfully apprehending the suspect and for keeping the people of New York City safe,” Jeffries said. “Acts of terror and violence have no place in our City and will never be tolerated. The individual responsible for this must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Monday’s attack is the latest in a string of terror violence in New York City.
In March, two suspected radical Islamic terrorists were arrested after throwing homemade explosives into a conservative group protesting outside the residence of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The one suspect is seen on camera yelling, “Allah Akbar” and used a pro-immigration counter-protester to boost himself and throw the bomb.
Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, the Islamic terrorists who tossed a BOMB at anti-Islam protesters in NYC, have pleaded NOT GUILTY to federal terrorism charges.
