Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego has become engulfed in a sex scandal involving numerous aides.
The New York Post reported Thursday that Gallego, D-Ariz., had secret sexual relationships with at least two Democratic House staffers during his time as a House member between 2015 and 2025. The aides worked for other Texas Democrats in the House at the time.
Sources told The Post the relationships are believed to have occurred while Gallego was unmarried, and that they were consensual.
Sources still called it part of a “pattern of mistakes and missteps and judgment calls.”
Gallego dismissed the scandal.
“I’m not going to engage in gossip,” he told reporters Thursday.
For months, Gallego has struggling with his public image after the collapse of his decade-long friendship with former Rep. Eric Swalwell, once “my best friend in the world,” by Gallego’s own words. Five women accused Swalwell of rape, sexual assault, and harassment. He resigned from Congress in disgrace in April.
Gallego had initially defended Swalwell and dismissed the rape allegations as a political attack. He later admitted Swalwell had “led a double life” and “lied to us” when pressure mounted.
“I was manipulated. I was lied to,” he said.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), who filed a Senate Ethics Committee complaint against Gallego last spring alleging sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations, is furious. When the Ethics Committee dismissed her complaint in late June, she was unmoved.
“Once a creep, always a creep,” Luna posted on X.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer declined to address the latest report at all Thursday, telling reporters he was focused on President Donald Trump’s primetime address that night instead.
