The ongoing saga on the unknown health status of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took another shocking turn after President Donald Trump broke his silence on the ailing senator.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One yesterday, Trump issued a blunt response to the ongoing questions surrounding McConnell’s mysterious hospitalization, saying he had not spoken with the Kentucky Republican since news surfaced of his health battle.
“I have no idea how he’s doing,” Trump said, according to CNN’s Alayna Treene.

McConnell’s on-again, off-again health scares have been in focus for several years now, including a 2023 concussion, several on-camera freezes and an eight-day hospital stay in February for flu-like symptoms, according to reports.
The 84-year-old McConnell, who already announced plans to leave Congress when his current term ends in January 2027, has not been seen or heard from publicly since he entered the hospital on June 14, and his office has declined to explain what sent him there, local affiliate WHAS11 reported.
Multiple reports have indicated that emergency crews responded to an unconscious person at McConnell’s address the same day he was admitted and performed CPR, though the dispatch call never named the senator as the patient.
McConnell’s office has been tight-lipped aside from a short update released July 2.
“The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session,” the statement from his office read, according to NBC News.
However, other Republican leaders continue to insist they have been in communication with McConnell, despite no public statements from him.
A spokeswoman for Sen. John Barrasso told CBS News on Wednesday that the Kentucky lawmaker “was fully engaged and is eager to get back to the Senate.” Meanwhile, conservative CNN commentator and friend of McConnell, Scott Jennings, claimed to have spoken with McConnell on Tuesday.
“We talked for just shy of 20 minutes … about IRAN, UKRAINE, the unfolding situation in MAINE, my visit to the TR Presidential Library, and even a little bit of Senate history,” Jennings posted on X.
“I told him we want to see him back at work as soon as possible.”

However, other leaders have demanded that McConnell and his office come forward with information about what’s happening.
Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear pushed McConnell to break his silence in a letter sent Wednesday.
“Over the last several weeks, Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the current state of your health and wellbeing, and ability to hold office in the United States Senate,” Beshear told McConnell’s office in a statement, according to NBC News.
“As Governor, I request that you fully update Kentuckians regarding the current status of your health,” the governor added. “As public officeholders, we have made a commitment to our constituents to do our best to represent them and to always be transparent.”
“I believe this requires clear communication about one’s ability to serve. We wish you a safe and speedy recovery,” Beshear told the 84-year-old senator.
