A car parked on Wall Street at the heart of New York City’s financial district burst into flames and exploded on Tuesday. The explosion sent a massive fireball and thick black smoke into the sky just steps from the iconic Charging Bull statue while tourists and office workers ran for safety.

The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. at one of the most heavily trafficked tourist spots in the city. A blaze quickly engulfed the car before the powerful explosion.
The MTA confirmed to The New York Post that the vehicle that exploded was one of theirs.
New York firefighters responded immediately and battled the blaze for more than an hour before bringing it under control shortly before 7 p.m.
No injuries or fatalities were reported among civilians or first responders.
Officials said there is no indication of criminal activity or terrorism. Preliminary investigations point to mechanical failure as the likely cause.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
