Gov. Gavin Newsom’s ultra “woke” wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom is back in the headlines — and this time, it’s because she told violent inmates at San Quentin state prison that their crimes were just like when she killed her own sister.
In the clip, Siebel Newsom describes visiting San Quentin to interview “young men who were juvenile offenders” for her documentary The Mask You Live In. To connect with the inmates, she shared that she also accidentally killed her 8-year-old sister, Stacey.
“I told them about my own loss, where I lost my older sister a few days before my seventh birthday, and I blame myself for her death,” she says in the video.
Siebel Newsom was 6 years old in 1981 when she reversed a golf cart during a family vacation in Hawaii and fatally struck her sister, who had been behind it.
She said killing her sister made her empathize with the violent convicted criminals in prison.
“I share that because they ultimately were accused of committing these violent crimes and sentenced for life, and I think it shocked them that this blonde lady interviewing them had a similar story — was perhaps in the wrong place at the wrong time, but wasn’t punished the way they were, because clearly it was an accident, but probably theirs was probably an accident too,” she said.
“I share that just because I quite enjoy spending time with people and being real, and unmasking, and showing them that it’s safe to unmask themselves.”

The backlash was swift.
“Newsom’s wife’s latest virtue signal is telling San Quentin lifers that she faced zero consequences when her sister was killed because it was an accident, then telling them their life sentences are probably for ‘accidents’ too,” conservative activist Riley Gaines wrote on X. “Peak elite tone-deafness.”
Actor James Woods was equally blunt.
“We can now be assured that this opportunistic little piece of work, like so many of her ilk, will invariably weep for the criminal, but consider his victims, if she indeed considers them at all, as collateral damage,” he wrote.
It’s the latest in a string of viral moments for Siebel Newsom as her husband, Gov. Gavin Newsom, prepares for an expected 2028 presidential run.
It has gotten so frequent, conservative commentator Tomi Lahern joked that she loves Siebel Newsom… because she’s going to “single-handedly” get a Republican elected to the White House in 2028.
