New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly appointed tenant and housing director declared homeownership a “weapon of white supremacy” and called for seizing private property in recent social media posts.
Happy New Year, Democrats… you’ve gotten exactly what we warned you against.
Cea Weaver, who Mamdani named director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants on his first day in office, has made the controversial statements on social media posts for years. She tried to delete the statements before taking office, but they were previously recorded.
“Elect more communists,” she wrote in 2017 when a New York City street corner was renamed in honor of former Manhattan Rep. Vito Marcantonio, who was himself an outspoken Marxist.
“Seize private property!” Weaver wrote in 2018.
“Private property including any kind of ESPECIALLY homeownership is a weapon of white supremacy,” she wrote in 2019.
“I think the reality is that for centuries, we have really treated property as an individualized good and not as a collective good,” Weaver said. “In transitioning into treating it as a collective good and towards the model of shared equity will require that we think about it different. It will mean that families, especially white families … are gonna have a different relationship to property than the one we currently have.”

Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist who was inaugurated January 1, signed an executive order revitalizing the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants and appointed Weaver as its director.
“You cannot hold landlords who violate the law to account unless you have a proven principled and tireless fighter at the helm,” Mamdani said. “That is why I am proud today to announce my friend Cea Weaver as the director of the newly reinvigorated Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants.”
Weaver currently serves as executive director of the far-Left Housing Justice for All and the New York State Tenant Bloc.
During his campaign, Mamdani promised to aggressively identify and prosecute landlords who do not respond fast enough and to seize their property if they cannot pay the city to fix it. Economists have warned this would lead to widespread government property seizures.
“What he means is that pretty much every tenant complaint will move rapidly into property seizure,” New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino warned on social media. “Look for DSA activists to begin agitating tenants to file frivolous complaints just to instigate seizures. This is straight up tyranny.”
“If your landlord does not responsibly steward your home, city government will step in,” Mamdani vowed.
Property owners warned that Mamdani and Weaver’s approach will devastate the rental market.
“Without landlords how do you build and maintain housing? You think the government is going to do it? Look at NYCHA,” said Humberto Lopes, founder and CEO of the Gotham Housing Alliance. “You put a system in place to destroy landlords.”
