Liberal Hollywood star Rosie O’Donnell issued an apology to conservatives on Sunday after falsely claiming the Minneapolis school shooter was a “MAGA person” and White supremacist.
“I did not do my due diligence before I made that emotional statement, and I said things about the shooter that were incorrect,” O’Donnell said.
Two children died last week at Annunciation Catholic School and 18 people were wounded when 23-year-old Robin Westman opened fire during Mass. The victims included eight-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski, along with 15 other children aged six to 15 and three elderly parishioners.
“What do you know? It was a white guy, Republican, MAGA person. What do you know? White supremacists,” O’Donnell said in a post right after the slaughter.
Federal investigators revealed the opposite was true.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the attack was domestic terrorism, citing the shooter’s statements against Christianity and calls for violence against President Donald Trump. Authorities found “kill Donald Trump” inscribed on one of the weapons used.
The shooter, whom federal officials described as transgender, also wrote disparaging messages about Black people, Hispanic people, Jews, and Israel. Westman died by suicide as law enforcement arrived.
“I assumed, like most shooters, they followed a standard MO and had standard, you know, feelings of… you know, NRA-loving kind of gun people,” O’Donnell said. “Anyway, the truth is I messed up, and when you mess up, you fess up. I’m sorry.”
Critics called her apology insincere, with one social media user calling it “the most unapologetic apology ever.”
When challenged in comments, O’Donnell responded, “I was wrong – and I apologize – what more do [you] want?”
O’Donnell, who has repeatedly criticized Trump, moved to Ireland in January after Trump’s return to office. She said she would consider returning to America when “it’s safe” and all citizens have “equal rights.”
