Trumped! Cruz drops out of presidential race

He promised to hang on until the Republican National Convention in July. But after a crushing loss in Indiana on Tuesday, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz officially ended his bid for the presidency.

Cruz, a political firebrand and Tea Party favorite, failed to gain traction as GOP frontrunner Donald Trump dominated headlines and polls. He announced at a rally in Indianapolis that he is suspending his campaign.

Despite an aggressive campaign effort, Cruz suffered a double-digit defeat in Indiana tonight, and was trailing badly in polls in California and New Jersey.

“It appears that path has been foreclosed,” Cruz told supporters at his concession speech. “Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we’ve got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign.”

With Cruz out of the campaign, the path is clear for Trump to claim the GOP nomination.

What I predicted yesterday is already happening. As the political campaign comes to a close, the political BS is also ending. The name-calling and accusations are forgotten. Now Mr. Trump needs to be conciliatory to Mr. Cruz, because he’ll need his support in the General Election campaign. And he needs Mr. Cruz’ voters. Now I remind Mr. Trump why he got so much support in this campaign. Americans were angry with Republican candidates who made promises and then forgot these promises. I remind Mr. Trump that his first promise involved immigration policies. I’ll be paying attention!!
