Justin Timberlake, the famous singer and actor, was arrested early Tuesday morning in Sag Harbor, New York.
Authorities say he was driving while drunk on Long Island.
Timberlake was released from jail later that morning after going to court in Sag Harbor, which is a coastal village in the Hamptons, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) from New York City. The Hamptons is a popular summer spot for rich people.
He was charged with one count of DWI, driving while intoxicated. His next court date is set for July 26, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
Timberlake’s lawyer and representatives didn’t respond right away when the Associated Press asked them for comments.
Timberlake started out as a Disney Mouseketeer when he was young. One of his castmates was Britney Spears, who later became his girlfriend. He achieved a new level of fame as a member of the boy band NSYNC and then started a solo music career in 2002. As an actor, Timberlake has been praised for his work in movies like “The Social Network” and “Friends With Benefits.”
He has won 10 Grammy awards for his music and four Primetime Emmy Awards for his TV work.
Last year, Timberlake was in the news when Spears released her memoir, “The Woman in Me.” She wrote several chapters about their relationship, including very personal details about a pregnancy, abortion, and a painful breakup.
More recently, in March, Timberlake released his first new album in six years called “Everything I Thought It Was.”
Timberlake has two upcoming concerts in Chicago this Friday and Saturday. Next week, he’s scheduled to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday and Wednesday.
