The Swamp is coming to dinner — and Hollywood, too.
Washington’s political, business, entertainment, and media elite are descending on the White House Wednesday evening for a glitzy state dinner honoring Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
Among the guests arriving are former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, actor Robert De Niro, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
They will join top administration officials like Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
Other notable attendees include Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi, tech titans like Apple CEO Tim Cook and Microsoft’s Brad Smith, and major financial CEOs Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase and Laurence Fink of BlackRock. The guest list also features key Biden allies like United Auto Workers president Shawn Fain.
From the political sphere, Republican Sen. Bill Hagerty, who previously served as Trump’s ambassador to Japan, will attend along with the current ambassador Rahm Emanuel. Democratic governors like Kathy Hochul of New York and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania are also invited.
Vice President Kamala Harris will be present, as will members of the Biden family including daughter Ashley, granddaughters Naomi and Finnegan, and Naomi’s husband Peter Neal.
The White House has spared no effort showcasing the U.S.-Japan alliance through symbolic cultural displays and choreographed diplomacy throughout the evening’s agenda. Guests will arrive through an entrance decorated with oversized Japanese fans – per the office of the first lady, the motif represents “the many paths life can take.”
Following the official pomp and dinner program, musical performer Paul Simon will provide the entertainment, having been handpicked by Jill Biden due to Kishida’s appreciation for his work.
