Southwest flight forced to turn around when engine cover fell off

A Southwest Airlines passenger jet heading to Houston was forced to return to the Denver airport on Sunday morning after the cover fell off the engine of the plane and hit the wing.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the cover detached and struck the wing flap during takeoff.

The Boeing 737 returned safely to the Denver airport, and the passengers headed to Texas were put in another jet and flown to their destination, Southwest Airlines said in a statement.

“We apologize for the inconvenience of their delay, but place our highest priority on ultimate Safety for our Customers and Employees. Our Maintenance teams are reviewing the aircraft,” Southwest’s statement reads.

It’s just the latest of the high profile mishaps happening with Boeing airlines. On Thursday, a flight from Texas was canceled after a report of a fire in the engine.

The FAA is investigating both incidents.

Both planes were Boeing 737-800s, an older model than the 737 Max.
