On Tuesday, President Joe Biden spoke at an event in North Carolina, and he used the term “Bidenomics.”
“Leading economists aren’t making much fun of ‘Bidenomics’ anymore,” Biden alleged. “They’re thinking maybe it works!”
Biden hadn’t publicly used the term “Bidenomics” since Jan. 25, more than two months ago.
In other words, Biden has mostly ditched the term, and so have other Democrats. In fact, Biden used the term only after a reporter asked him why he hadn’t been using it.
“After Axios asked the White House why Biden wasn’t saying “Bidenomics” — including in his State of the Union address this month — he used the term at a Tuesday afternoon event in North Carolina,” Axios said.
At the time, White House spokesperson Michael Kikukawa told the outlet that Biden “will continue talking about Bidenomics, which is a sharp contrast with congressional Republicans, who are siding with special interests and the rich over middle-class families.”
Congressional Democrats seem to be ditching the term, too.
According to Quorum data reviewed by Axios, congressional Democrats used the term 483 times across tweets, floor speeches, press releases and Facebook posts. So far this year, they’ve used it fewer than 24 times per month.
However, one group is still using the term “Bidenomics.” It’s the GOP.
Congressional Republicans have the term more than 500 times this month, according to the same review.
Biden has credited the conservative media with coining the term.
“You guys branded it. I didn’t,” Biden told reporters in July. “I never called it Bidenomics… Let’s get it straight: The first time it was used was in the Wall Street Journal. OK? I don’t go around beating my chest, ‘Bidenomics.'”
The Wall Street Journal‘s Greg Ip used the term in April 2021, and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican, used the term as an insult on the House floor one month later.
In the 2010s, former President Barack Obama launched a P.R. blitz to improve Americans’ associations with the term “Obamacare.”
Biden has tried the same thing… to more disappointing results.
First time "Bidenomics" was said on C-SPAN?
