A top official for the Biden administration in the Pentagon’s school system in the Americas region, Stephen Hovanic, was arrested on suspicion of pandering on Nov. 14, according to a press release from Georgia’s Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
Hovanic was one of 26 arrested in a human trafficking sting over two weeks in Georgia, Sgt. Toby Nix told The Newnan Times-Herald.
“Pandering is not a victimless crime, as the demand for prostitution drives the sex trafficking market,” Nix said.
Six women, suspected human trafficking victims, were reportedly rescued in the operation by police.
“The victims were taken to an undisclosed ‘safe house,’ where they will receive the help they need to move forward from the heinous crime of human trafficking,” Nix told the Times-Heard.
Hovanic is a longtime employee of the Department of Defense branch located in Peachtree City, Georgia, where the Department of Defense Education Activity’s (DODEA) Americas division is located.
“We are aware of an alleged incident involving a DoDEA employee in the Americas Region. As there are ongoing legal processes, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time. Any questions regarding the incident should be directed to the local law enforcement agency involved,” a DODEA spokesperson told The Daily Caller.
