Arnold Schwarzenegger — the actor, bodybuilder, and former governor of California — spoke to actor Rob Lowe on a podcast last month.
Schwarzenegger spoke about what he believes as a conservative, compared to what the Democrats believe.
And he didn’t hold back.
Speaking to Schwarzenegger, Lowe recalled a conversation with former U.S. Rep. David Dreier, another California Republican. Lowe described Dreier as a conservative favoring “in no particular order, strong military, low taxes, less government, more personal freedoms.”
After that, Lowe implicitly asked Schwarzenegger about his core beliefs.
“Strong law enforcement,” said Schwarzenegger.
Lowe continued, “Then I’d like to know, I always ask Democrats what it means to be a Democrat in that way. And I, I think whatever anybody would say –”
Schwarzenegger intrerrupted, “Ruin your cities… That’s what the Democrats would say. We are about ruining the cities. We want to f*ck up every city in America. That seems to be the theme right now.”
Lowe asked, “Why is that?”
The former governor replied, “I have no idea.”
Earlier this year, Schwarzenegger’s office criticized Los Angeles authorities for their slow response to potholes.
At the 2004 Republican National Convention, Schwarzenegger said that he first became a Republican in 1968, after hearing the late President Richard Nixon talk about “free enterprise, getting the government off your back, lowering the taxes and strengthening the military.”
Now, on the podcast, Schwarzenegger has revealed why he’s remained a conservative.
The bodybuilder-turned-politician remains the most recent Republican to have won a statewide election in California. He left office in 2011.
