Cancel the third Republican presidential debate, 76 percent of Republican voters told a recent McLaughlin & Associates survey.
Former President Donald Trump has too much support.
The poll asked Republican voters —
Currently Donald Trump is leading in all the Republican primary polls nationally by very big margins of 30, 40 or more points and winning early states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina by big margins. Even more important President Trump leads Joe Biden in the national media polls like ABC/Washington Post, CBS, Harvard Harris and others. It’s time to stop the RNC debates attacking Donald Trump, fight Biden’s political indictments, and rally Republicans behind President Trump so we can start the campaign of beating Joe Biden.
The survey, taken between Oct. 19-24, reported that 76 percent of Republican voters agreed with the statement.
56 percent said they “strongly agree” while 19 percent “somewhat agree.” Just 16 percent said they disagree and the debates should be held; 11 percent “strongly disagree” and just five percent “somewhat disagree.” Eight percent did not answer the question, the survey said.
Regardless of voters preference, the third Republican debate will be held in just 7 days in Miami, a day after several states hold off-year elections. Participating candidates will be facing the most stringent requirements yet to take part.
Trump has declined to participate for the third time in a row.
To be invited on the stage, candidates must secure 4% of the vote in multiple polls and 70,000 unique donors, the Republican National Committee announced last month.
NBC News’ Lester Holt of Nightly News and Kristen Welker of Meet the Press will join Hugh Hewitt of The Hugh Hewitt Show to moderate the debate.
The requirements for the third debate will be more challenging to meet than the second. For the second debate, candidates need at least 3% in two national polls or 3% in one national poll as well as two polls from four of the early-voting states — Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, according to the RNC. The White House hopefuls must also have at least 50,000 unique donors.
Trump continues to enjoy a massive, perhaps insurmountable, lead in national polls. RealClearPolitics gives him a 49.5 percent advantage in all major polls over his nearest competitor.
