Movie star and beloved female icon Raquel Welch died Tuesday at the age of 82 after a brief illness, TMZ reported.
Best known for her stunning looks, Welch’s popularity peaked in 1966 when she starred in the classic films “Fantastic Voyage” and “One Million B.C.”
Welch was nominated for two Golden Globes during her career, winning the award for her 1975 role in “The Three Musketeers” starring Charlton Heston.
She started her career in ballet and beauty pageants before her big break in “Fantastic Voyage,” a sci-fi thriller where Welch played a medical team member.
She was named in the “100 Sexiest Stars in Film History” by Empire Magazine in 1995.
In her memoir, “Raquel: Beyond the Clevage,” Welch said she always took her career roles seriously.
“I was happy that I had got a break so I could have my career, but at the same time, it was like: ’This isn’t me. But this is what I have to do because this is my ticket to ride,’” she wrote of her role in “One Million B.C.”
“I’m not in a position to just say: ‘Oh, no, wait a minute. You’ve got it all wrong. I’d like to do Shakespeare.’”
