Chris Wallace makes major new announcement

Former Fox News star Chris Wallace announced in December to great fanfare that the was leaving Fox News to be the flagship program on CNN’s new streaming service, CNN+.

Less than a month after launch, however, CNN was forced to shutter the subscription service. Under AT&T, there were $100 million in development costs and some 500 employees assigned to building out the failed streaming network — making it perhaps the biggest failure in mainstream media history.

And it left Wallace without a home.

Until now.

“Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” will move to HBO Max, according to a report by media insider Dylan Byers.

“Byers reports that in addition to hosting his show on HBO Max, Wallace will continue to do work for CNN as new CNN head Chris Licht begins to sort out where to deploy talent at the networks under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella,” Yahoo! News reported. ”

CNN has tried to keep Wallace at the network despite the implosion of CNN+ after the company convinced him to leave his two-decades post on “Fox News Sunday.”

Wallace said when he left his job at Fox News, the networks conservative lean had become “unsustainable.”

“I’m fine with opinion: conservative opinion, liberal opinion,” Wallace told the The New York Times in a March interview. “But when people start to question the truth — Who won the 2020 election? Was Jan. 6 an insurrection? — I found that unsustainable.”

“Before, I found it was an environment in which I could do my job and feel good about my involvement at Fox,” Wallace reportedly said. “And since November of 2020, that just became unsustainable, increasingly unsustainable as time went on.”

HBO Max is not home to original news or interview programs, and the only politically-oriented live show is the staple “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Wallace’s jump to the new streaming service could signal that HBO Max will merge with Discovery+ and be home to more news and opinion.
