California Gov. Gavin Newsom is feeling the heat.
He’s on the verge of a recall election, down in the polls to longtime conservative voice Larry Elder, and he just suffered a major meltdown caught on film.
In a Zoom call with local media, he lashed out against reporters for being asked a simple question about the working class struggles in their state.
“Forgive me,” he said. “I know I’m a little pointed today. But I have been taking a lot from… you folks, for a lot of months, so I should be able to express myself, too.”
Then he proceeded to go on a major rant, which failed to even address the reporter’s question at all.
Instead, he just rattled off a bunch of random accolades that California achieved under his watch.
“I love this damn state,” he said. “We’re number one in job creation. 559,000 jobs. Eat your heart out Texas, Florida.”
“We’re number one in the Bloomberg index of innovation and entrepreneurialism. We dominated yet again in venture capital, and that’s not just for fancy folks in Silicon Valley. That’s pushing out the boundary of discovery, opportunity, and innovation that advantages each and every one of us. 53 percent of the nation’s venture capital. Over 100 damn IPOs, year-to-date in this state. $80+ billion-dollar budget surplus. $80+ plus billion. Not that $76 billion.”
And amid his ramble, he couldn’t help but compare his state to Florida and Texas, which handled the pandemic in vastly different ways compared to his liberal leadership.
“We had another $3.9 million in new cash. We had better health outcomes than Florida and Texas, and better economic outcomes, our economy contracted at a more modest rate than Florida and Texas. Do you know, Stephanie, that middle-class families in Texas pay more taxes than middle-class Californians? Look that up, that’s a fact. I don’t know why that doesn’t get more damn attention. ‘Cus I care about working folks. That’s a fact.”
The leftwing governor said he’s upset over unfair press coverage.
But it’s more likely that he’s a nervous wreck due to the recall vote to come.
That’s what critics think, at least.
