Tom Guiry, best known for his role as Scotty Smalls in the beloved 1993 film “The Sandlot,” has found himself in legal hot water.
The 42-year-old actor was arrested on June 2 in Horry County, South Carolina, facing charges of assault and battery, malicious injury to personal property, and disorderly conduct.
The incident that led to Guiry’s arrest took place in his Myrtle Beach-area neighborhood. According to a police report, Guiry was observed throwing a 35-pound dumbbell into the windshield of his neighbor’s jeep. The former child star allegedly lifted the weight over his head before launching it at the vehicle, causing significant damage.
Following the property damage, Guiry reportedly confronted his neighbor while brandishing a knife.
The situation escalated when Guiry allegedly followed the neighbor’s wife into their garage while still armed with the knife.
When confronted by authorities and his neighbor about the incident, Guiry reportedly admitted to his actions, saying, “I did it. I’m sorry man, I’m gonna get you back… I… sorry, brother, I’ll pay you back.”
On June 24, Guiry appeared in court to face the charges against him.
He pleaded guilty to all counts, including the additional charge of disorderly conduct. As a result of his plea, Guiry was ordered to pay $757 in fines and was credited with time served for the night he spent in custody following his arrest on June 2.
This incident marks a troubling turn for Guiry, who gained fame as a child actor in the early 1990s. Beyond his iconic role in “The Sandlot,” Guiry has appeared in other notable films such as “Lassie,” “Black Hawk Down,” and “Mystic River.”
