Supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden erupted in anger this weekend after former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani called him a “pathological liar.”
They accused Giuliani of taking cheap shots, and pointed out that President Donald Trump has been known for stretching the truth.
But there’s one big problem with their arguments …
Biden is indeed a pathological liar. He has been caught crafting falsehoods repeatedly throughout his long political career.
Here are five of the worst:
#5: Biden lies about his legal education
In a 1987 speech, Biden claimed that he attended Syracuse University’s College of Law on a “full academic scholarship” and ended up “in the top half of my class.”
Biden never received a full scholarship to Syracuse and he was one of the worst students in his law class. He finished 76th out of 85 students — right around the bottom 10%.
#4: The Mandela arrest that never happened
Biden claimed more than once that he was arrested in South Africa in the 1970s trying to visit imprisoned political leader Nelson Mandela.
He said he “had the great honor of being arrested with our UN ambassador on the streets of Soweto.” Of course, Biden was never arrested, as his campaign eventually had to admit. And not to mention, Soweto is actually nearly 800 miles from where Mandela was being held.
#3: Biden’s false hard-luck story
Biden actually had the audacity to claim that his ancestors worked 12-hour shifts in coal mines in Pennsylvania. Biden was trying to present himself as the face of the American dream.
But Biden’s family never worked in coal mines and this was no American dream. He was actually plagiarizing a speech written by a British politician.
#2: The forgotten cages
During a September 2019 debate among Democratic presidential candidates, Biden claimed that former President Barack Obama’s administration “didn’t lock people up in cages.”
Biden campaign officials must have fainted when they heard that leave his mouth. At that time, it was already well known that photos of migrants locked in cages that spread virally on social media were taken during the Obama years.
#1: Biden lies about endorsements
Just two months ago, in an effort to embellish his credentials with African American voters, Biden claimed in an interview that, “The NAACP has endorsed me every time I’ve run.”
The NAACP does not endorse candidates. Biden was literally claiming an entire career’s worth of endorsements that never existed.
So it seems like there are no limits to what Biden will lie about.
Biden’s supporters go to great lengths to defend him. But it’s clear that Biden has a very strained relationship with the truth.
The case could be made that there appears to be no relationship at all.
