A female Turning Point USA reporter was attacked and beaten by an angry mob of anti-ICE protesters outside a federal building in Minneapolis Saturday. The attack has triggered a federal criminal investigation and charges against four people.
Savanah Hernandez was at the Whipple Federal Building — home to Minnesota’s ICE field office and an ICE detention facility — to shoot B-roll footage of the ongoing protests. She said she had no intention of interacting with or interviewing anyone at the protest.
It didn’t matter.
One of the protesters reportedly recognized Hernandez as a conservative commentator, and a mob quickly surrounded her. What began with shouting and whistles blown directly into her ears turned violent.
A woman threw punches at Hernandez, knocking her to the pavement. A man then approached from behind and shoved her to the ground a second time. A third scuffle left her tackled to the pavement again before Hernandez was able to escape to nearby police officers.
The mainstream media ignored the violence and didn’t cover the attack, despite multiple videos of the attack posted online that captured the assault from several angles.
Imagine if conservative protesters had attacked a CNN reporter like this?
Hernandez identified three of her attackers as Chris Ostroushko, his wife Deyanna Ostroushko, and their daughter Paige Ostroushko. Chris Ostroushko had previously been celebrated by local media — including The Star Tribune — as an anti-ICE hero after a profanity-laced protest tirade went viral in January.
“A second angle shows that he had to be held back by 5 men as he continued to charge at me,” Hernandez wrote on X. “I didn’t speak a word to him all day yet he repeatedly called me a bitch and very clearly looks like he wanted to violently hurt me even worse than he did.”
The sheriff’s office confirmed four people will face charges. Three are tied to the assault on Hernandez and a deputy. A fourth faces gross misdemeanor obstruction with force against a deputy. A fifth individual, Lorenzo Amadeo Garcia, 20, was separately booked into Hennepin County Jail on probable cause for obstructing the legal process.
Hernandez said a protester named William Kelly spotted her and incited the mob against her. Kelly is already facing federal charges related to a January mob that stormed a St. Paul church during Easter services.
By Sunday, the case had escalated to the federal level. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon responded to Hernandez’s account on X with two words: “On it.”
The FBI confirmed it has opened a federal criminal investigation into the attack.
Take a look. Warning: These videos will make your blood boil.

This is now the second time I have been mobbed and assaulted for filming a protest on U.S. streets.
Today these Minneapolis protesters were chanting that they were “ANTIFA” and proved it, by mobbing and beating me for reporting on a public protest: pic.twitter.com/EOhyg9AFME
